Over this past year, we have seen one of our campaigns become the most successful in agency history from an industry awards perspective. Thanks to a little help from America’s Founding Fathers, Visit Fairfax’s “Historical Figures” campaign has taken the county, the region, and now the nation, by storm.

The campaign used the classic images of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Ben Franklin, with one very modern addition: a QR code. By holding their phones up to the code, people could hear about Fairfax right from the mouths of the men who helped put it on the map. The innovative, irreverent campaign generated great reach, traffic, and revenue results for Fairfax. It’s also brought an impressive amount of hardware to WHITE64’s doors.

To date, “Historical Figures” has earned 16 prestigious advertising, public relations and digital awards, succeeding over thousands of national and international brands to be recognized among the very best. The accolades include two Gold National American Advertising Federation ADDY Awards, as well as one Platinum award and the coveted Best of Show at the 2013 Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International Adrian awards.

Other wins include three HSMAI Gold Adrian awards and one Silver Adrian, two Gold District AAF ADDY awards, five local Washington, D.C.-area AAF ADDY awards, and a 2014 Virginia Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus Virgo award.

The campaign has proven that David-sized organizations can triumph over Goliath-sized competitors and budgets with the right inventive, concept-driven idea. As our Founding Fathers have demonstrated, when a powerful idea is put forth in an imaginative, integrated way, everyone takes notice.
